HOUSTON – This Sunday at Sorrels Field the HCU women's soccer team will host the Southern Jaguars for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff with an opportunity to move its season record back to .500.
The Huskies (2-3) have dropped their last two matchups, including Thursday evening's 3-0 defeat at the hands of College of Charleston. Goalkeeper
Emmy McKeon finished that game with seven saves for HCU.
HCU and Southern (1-2) faced off in Baton Rouge, La. last season with the Huskies earning a 2-1 victory. All three goals came in the game's first 25 minutes as HCU scored the first two before seeing its lead cut in half just over a minute after the second goal.
Alexia Murillo scored the game-winner in that matchup while
Olivia Rossman had an assist on the Huskies' other goal.
The Jaguars opened the season with a 1-0 home win over Southern Miss. despite being out-shot by a 16-3 margin. Junior forward J'Lea Berry scored the game-winner in the 14
th minute for Southern with an assist from senior Gia Johnson. Southern's two losses were shutout losses at the hands of McNeese and SMU. Southern has utilized three different goalkeepers so far this year with the trio combing for 21 saves with a .778 save percentage.
HCU has just one game scheduled next week, a Thursday, Sept. 4, matchup in Dallas, Texas against the SMU Mustangs.
