WSOC: HCU Set for SMU Trip, Rescheduled Matchup with Southern in Baton Rouge

The Huskies will face the Mustangs on Thursday before heading to Baton Rouge to face Southern

DALLAS, Texas – HCU women's soccer is back on the road this week, first traveling to Dallas to take on the SMU Mustangs on Thursday before heading to Baton Rouge on Sunday for a rescheduled matchup against Southern for the contest rained out this past Sunday.

HCU (2-3) last played on Thursday, Aug. 28, against College of Charleston with their last scheduled game at home against Southern getting rained out on Sunday, Aug. 31.

The Mustangs (3-2) have won their two home games this season, defeating Northwestern State and Southern by identical 2-0 final scores. SMU also won, 4-3, at North Texas while suffering 2-0 defeats on the road against a top-10 Wake Forest team and Texas Tech.

Freshman midfielder Lindsay Nicholson and sophomore defender Nicole Stryker lead SMU with two goals each so far this season while Sammy Nieves has been credited with a team-high three assists. Junior Aubrey Brown has started four of the team's five games in goal, making 11 saves with a 1.75 goals against average.

Southern (1-3) pivoted following the rainout on Sunday to play across town at Houston on Monday, Sept. 1, morning. The Jaguars fell, 6-0, in that contest and have dropped their last three.

The Huskies are looking for their first-ever win against the Mustangs, holding an 0-5 all-time record vs. SMU. Four of those five meetings came during the 1986 and 1987 seasons with just a 2-1 SMU victory in Dallas during the 2018 campaign coming since the HCU program was restarted in 2006.

The Huskies return to Sorrels Field for their final non-conference home game of the year next week, taking on Prairie View A&M at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 11.
