HOUSTON, Texas –
Denzel Hinds,
Josh Gillis-Harry and
SJ Marais all earned event wins on Saturday at the Rice J. Fred Duckett Twilight meet hosted at the Ley Track on the Rice campus.
Senior
Denzel Hinds placed first in the men's 400 meters with a new PR time of 48.72 with
Jacob Smith trailing by less than two-tenths of a second with a time of 48.87 to place second. Meanwhile, in the men's 200 meters
Alex Long-Craine racing to a PR mark of 22.28 while freshman
Aidan Bates put up a time of 22.59. Long-Craine also finished seventh in the 100-meter dash in the evening, crossing in 10.86.
In the women's 100m evening race,
Raylen Russell posted a time of 12.39 to finish fifth overall.
Peyton Oliver, meanwhile, ran a PR time of 25.17 in the women's 200m afternoon race.
Destiny Quintanilla also set a new PR in the women's 1500 evening race, finishing in 4:38.73.
Arlette Concepcion placed fourth in the women's 5000 meters, crossing in 17:04.34 while
Justice Artisst came in fifth in the men's 5000m, posting a time of 14:50.68.
Abderahman Benfodda finished second in the late night men's 1500m with a mark of 3:58.70.
In field events,
Josh Gillis-Harry placed first in the triple jump with a top mark of 15.24m/50-0.0, giving an HCU jumper an event win in the TJ in each of the last three meets HCU has competed in. Teammate
Dadrian Calhoun jumped 15.05m/49-4.50 to place fifth.
Kennedy Doakes cleared 1.72m/5-7.75 in the women's high jump to place fifth while
Kade Stevens finished ninth in the men's high jump with a clearance of 1.94m/6-4.50.
Storm Evans boasted a top throw of 44.35m/145-6.0 in the women's discus to come in seventh.
SJ Marais placed first in the evening 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.39 while
Ashton Munoz-Nieves came in third in 15.03.
Brianna Hinds recorded a fourth-place finish in the women's 400m, crossing the finish line in 1:03.05.
The Huskies have one final meet on the docket, the Texas A&M Alumni Muster on Saturday, May 3, before the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships.
