BSB: HCU Baseball Prepares for Home Series Against McNeese

Huskies return home undefeated in SLC play to face McNeese

HOUSTON, Texas – The HCU baseball team is set to host McNeese for a three-game Southland Conference series at Husky Field. The Huskies will take on the Cowboys on Friday, March 7, at 6:30 p.m., followed by Saturday, March 8, at 2 p.m., and Sunday, March 9, at 2 p.m.

HCU is coming off a dominant first SLC series, sweeping Incarnate Word in San Antonio to improve to 7-3 overall and 3-0 in conference play, marking the first time in program history the Huskies have started SLC competition undefeated through three games. HCU secured wins of 14-10, 10-5, and 9-7 against UIW, showcasing strong offensive and pitching performances.

McNeese enters the weekend with a 10-1 record (3-0 SLC) after defeating Dillard, 19-6, in a non-conference matchup on March 4. The Cowboys also swept their opening SLC series and will look to continue their strong start against the Huskies.

HCU has seen impressive individual performances early in the season. Joshua Caravalho leads the pitching staff with a 1.59 ERA and a 3-0 record over 17 innings, allowing just three earned runs while striking out 13. Ben Smith follows with a 4.50 ERA and 10 strikeouts in 10 innings, while Parker Edwards leads the team with 16 strikeouts in 14.2 innings pitched.

At the plate, Jack Walker leads the Huskies with a .389 batting average, recording four doubles and nine RBIs. Katcher Halligan boasts a .368 average with a team-high 13 runs scored, while Parker Edwards has provided power with three home runs and a .708 slugging percentage.

Defensively, Luke Bard, Kenneth Dutka, and Tevis Payne all maintain a 1.000 fielding percentage, with Bard handling 64 chances without an error.

Following the McNeese series, the Huskies will take on Prairie View A&M in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday, March 12, at 6:30 p.m. at Husky Field.
