MGOLF: Huskies Finish 4th at the Colin Montgomerie-HCU Invitational

Smith secures top-5 finish as HCU wraps up home tournament

HOUSTON, Texas – The HCU men's golf team hosted its second tournament of the year at Sweetwater Country Club, finishing in fourth place with a team total of 877 (+25) after three rounds. New Mexico Junior College claimed the tournament title, shooting 866 (+14).

The Huskies were led by Clayton Smith, who posted a T5 finish after three steady rounds of 73, 71, and 71. In the final round, Smith carded five birdies, shooting 35 (-1) on the front nine and 36 (+1) on the back, securing a strong finish and climbing the leaderboard.

Roy Barrera and Brooks Pawlak, competing as an individual, both finished T16 at +7 (220 total). Barrera shot 73-75-72, while Pawlak recorded 70-78-72. Mason Napier followed closely behind at T22, finishing +8 (221 total) after shooting 71-78-72. Brendon Willey rounded out the Huskies' top-five, placing 25th with a +9 (222 total), including a final-round 77.

Haven McEntire finished T47 at +16 (229 total), posting rounds of 75-77-77. Competing individually, Shaheen Momin and Binh Pham finished T52 and T59, respectively. Momin shot 78-72-82 (+19, 232 total), while Pham recorded 80-70-84 (+21, 234 total). Benjamin Dabos finished T64 at +22 (235 total), improving in his final round with a 77.

Up next, the Huskies will travel to La Jolla, California, for the UC San Diego Invitational, held March 23-25.
