BSB: HCU Travels to Baylor for Midweek Matchup

Huskies Face Bears in Non-Conference Clash

WACO, Texas – HCU baseball heads to Waco to take on Baylor in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday, April 1, at 6:30 p.m. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.

The Huskies (17-8) and Bears (19-8) last met on April 2, 2024, in a competitive game that remained a one-run contest through six innings before Baylor broke it open with a 10-run surge in the final two frames, securing a 13-5 victory at Baylor Ballpark.

HCU is coming off a successful Southland Conference series against Stephen F. Austin, where they swept the three-game set at Husky Field. The Huskies took the opener on March 29 with a 6-4 victory, followed by a 12-8 win in game two later that evening. They completed the sweep with another 6-4 win on March 30.

As a team, the Huskies are hitting .291, with Jack Walker leading at .371 and Rhett Hendricks close behind at .357. Parker Edwards has been a power threat with six home runs and a .614 slugging percentage. On the mound, Joshua Caravalho (5-1, 4.33 ERA) and Parker Edwards (4.28 ERA) have been key starters, while Louis Castano (2.01 ERA) and Ben Norton (1.10 ERA) have been strong in relief. Defensively, Kenneth Dutka and Rhett Hendricks remain flawless with perfect fielding percentages.

Baylor enters the matchup after a competitive Big 12 series against No. 12 Arizona in Tucson. The Bears won the first two games, 8-5 on March 28 and 6-3 on March 29, before dropping the finale, 6-11, on March 30.

Offensively, Baylor is hitting .304 as a team, led by Hunter Simmons (.400 AVG, 24 RBIs) and Pearson Riebock (.373 AVG, 17 BB). Tyriq Kemp and Enzo Apodaca have each driven in over 20 runs. On the mound, Ethan Calder (3-3, 5.80 ERA) has been a key starter, while Will Glatch (0.54 ERA, 17 Ks) and Gabe Craig (0.82 ERA, six saves) have anchored the bullpen. Baylor's pitching staff holds a 4.73 ERA, limiting opponents to a .241 batting average.

Following the Baylor game, HCU will hit the road for another midweek matchup against Prairie View A&M on Wednesday, April 2, at 2 p.m. in Prairie View, Texas.
