HOUSTON, Texas – HCU saw a number of student-athletes post personal best marks on Saturday at the Rice Victor Lopez Classic held at the Rice Ley Track.
Denzel Hinds, an NCAA West First Round qualifier last year in the 400 meter hurdles, set a new PR in the event with a time of 51.93 to place third.
Alex Long-Craine raced to a new PR in the 100 meter dash, finishing in 10.91 to place sixth. The men's 4x400 relay team of
Charles Beckworth, Hinds, Aiden Bates and
Jacob Smith recorded a fourth-place finish with a time of 3:15.86.
In women's sprints,
Peyton Oliver posted a pair of new personal best marks in both the 100m and the 200 meters. She came in sixth in the 200m with a time of 25.41 while crossing in 12.36 in the 100m, just behind teammate
Raylen Russell who finished in 12.34.
Lanaye Keys came in sixth in the 100 meter hurdles, crossing in 14.88.
Dadrian Calhoun leapt to a new PR distance of 15.41m/50-6.75 in the men's triple jump to finish third overall while
Josh Gillis-Harry placed seventh with a top mark of 14.75m/48-4.75. In the long jump, freshman
Benny Haywood recorded a top distance of 7.08m/23-2.75 with Calhoun coming in just behind him at 7.07m/23-2.50.
Kade Stevens tied for first in the men's high jump with a personal best clearance of 2.00m/6-6.75 while fellow newcomer
Storm Evans recorded a top throw of 44.83m/147-1 in the women's discus.
The Huskies will remain in town for their next meet, the two-day Tom Tellez Invitational taking place at the University of Houston's Carl Lewis International Complex on Friday and Saturday, Apr. 4-5.
