MGOLF: Huskies Set for UC San Diego Invitational at Torrey Pines

HCU returns to action against a competitive 20-team field

LA JOLLA, California – The HCU men's golf team is set to compete at the 5th Annual UC San Diego Invitational, held at the renowned Torrey Pines South Course. The tournament will take place from March 23-25, featuring a competitive field of 20 teams. The Huskies will tee off in the opening round on Sunday, March 23, with a 1 p.m. shotgun start, followed by another 1 p.m. shotgun start for round two on Monday, March 24. The final round is scheduled for Tuesday, March 25, with an early 7 a.m. shotgun start.

The tournament field includes teams ranked in the NCAA standings as of March 19, with No. 64 New Mexico State leading the pack. Other notable competitors include No. 88 Arkansas State, No. 135 North Dakota State, and No. 139 Sacramento State. The Huskies enter the event ranked No. 223 and will look to improve their standing against a deep and competitive field that also features NCAA Division II powerhouse Oklahoma Christian, ranked No. 7.

Torrey Pines South Course, one of the most challenging venues in golf, will test the Huskies' skill and resilience. Originally designed by William Bell, Sr. in 1957, the course has hosted prestigious tournaments, including the U.S. Open in 2008 and 2021, and is a regular stop for the PGA Tour's Farmers Insurance Open. The South Course was renovated by Rees Jones in 2001 and 2019, making it longer and more demanding, stretching up to 7,800 yards. The course's coastal cliffs provide breathtaking views, though players must stay focused amidst the distractions of hang-gliders and para-gliders soaring overhead.

HCU's lineup for the tournament will feature Clayton Smith, Roy Barrera, Brooks Pawlak, Mason Napier, and Brendon Willey. Tee times for the first round have been set, with pairings to be determined for the following rounds.

Following their appearance in California, the Huskies will travel to Jonesboro, Arkansas, to compete in the Arkansas State Intercollegiate from April 14-15. The event will serve as the final regular-season tournament before the Southland Conference Championship, where the Huskies will look to make a strong postseason push.
