HCU looks to continue strong run in conference play against undefeated Vaqueros

EDINBURG, Texas – HCU baseball resumes Southland Conference play with a three-game road series against league-leading UT Rio Grande Valley at UTRGV Baseball Stadium. The series opens on Friday, March 21, at 6:30 p.m., followed by games on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday at 12 p.m.

HCU (12-6, 5-1 SLC) is coming off a four-game non-conference series against Rice, winning 4-3 and 6-2 in the first two games before dropping the final two games, 7-4 and 6-2.

Jack Walker leads the Huskies at the plate with a .361 batting average, recording 22 hits and 13 RBIs in 18 games. Parker Edwards has been the Huskies' primary power threat, tallying six home runs and a team-high 19 RBIs with a .709 slugging percentage. On the mound, Joshua Caravalho has been dominant, posting a 5-0 record with a 2.17 ERA across 29 innings and five starts. In the bullpen, closer Ben Norton still boasts a clean 0.00 ERA with 12.1 innings pitched, two saves and a 1-1 record while Louis Castano has been effective with a 1.32 ERA and a .200 opponent batting average in 13.2 innings of work.

UTRGV (16-3, 9-0 SLC) enters the series undefeated in SLC play and just swept Texas Southern in a two-game midweek set, winning 10-0 and 9-0. Isaac Lopez leads the Vaqueros with a .373 batting average, while Armani Raygoza has a team-high seven home runs and 22 RBIs. Jacob Sanchez adds depth, hitting .350 with 20 runs scored. On the mound, Jacob Limas holds a 2.42 ERA across 22.1 innings, and Víctor Loa has a .200 opponent batting average over 21 innings. Angelo Cabral leads the team with 25 strikeouts in 19.1 innings.

After this weekend's series, HCU will step out of conference play for a matchup at Texas A&M on Tuesday, March 25, at 6 p.m.
