HCU Baseball Returns to Action After SLC Series Win Over McNeese

HOUSTON, Texas – The HCU baseball team (9-4, 5-1 SLC) will host Prairie View A&M in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday, March 12, at 6:30 p.m. at Husky Field. The Huskies are coming off a strong Southland Conference (SLC) series against McNeese, where they secured two wins in three games.

HCU opened the series with a 6-2 victory over the Cowboys on Friday, March 7, followed by an explosive 15-8 win on Saturday, March 8. Despite a close battle in the series finale, the Huskies fell short in a 4-6 loss on Sunday, March 9. Jack Walker has been a key offensive contributor, leading the team with a .375 batting average and 12 RBIs, while Parker Edwards has showcased his power with five home runs and a 1.258 OPS. On the mound, Joshua Caravalho has been dominant, posting a 1.96 ERA and a 4-0 record over 23 innings, while Louis Castano has impressed in relief with a 1.59 ERA.

Prairie View A&M (4-13) is coming off a tough 14-0 loss to Texas A&M on Tuesday, March 11, in College Station. The Panthers' offense is led by Landon Williams, who boasts a .382 batting average with three home runs and 15 RBIs, while Ahmar Donatto follows closely, hitting .351 with 20 hits. On the pitching side, Kamar Dove leads the rotation with a 2.95 ERA and 16 strikeouts over 21.1 innings, and Seve Medrano has been solid in relief, posting a 0.79 ERA.

The Huskies own a 32-7 all-time record vs. the Panthers and have won nine of the last 10 meetings. Prairie View won the most recent meeting, however, earning an 11-9 win at Husky Field in 2022.

Following the midweek contest, the Huskies will turn their attention to a weekend series against Rice. HCU will face the Owls on Friday, March 14, at 6:30 p.m. at Reckling Park before returning home for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 15, at 2 p.m. The series will conclude with a final matchup on Sunday, March 16, at 1 p.m. at Reckling Park.
