FRISCO, Texas – For the second time in as many weeks, HCU senior designated hitter and pitcher
Parker Edwards has been selected Southland Conference Hitter of the Week after helping lead the Huskies to a series win over McNeese in SLC play this past weekend.
Edwards batted .417 in the three-game series, hitting two home runs and two doubles with five runs batted in and five runs scored as the Huskies went 2-1 against McNeese. In the series opener on Friday, Edwards blasted a solo home run on the first pitch of his first at bat to give himself a 1-0 lead as he was the Huskies' starting pitcher. He went 2-for-4 at the plate in that game while also pitching four innings with one unearned run allowed, striking out six and allowing just one hit in a game HCU won 6-2.
On Saturday, in a 15-8 victory, Edwards finished the day 2-for-4 with a double and an inside the park home run, scoring three times and driving in four runs. He then scored another run and doubled while going 1-for-4 in Sunday's series finale.
Edwards now has five home runs through six SLC games, the most by any player in conference play thus far. For the season, he is batting .361 with a team-leading 14 RBI and 11 runs scored. He has hit safely in eight of nine games this year and has four multi-hit games.
Edwards and the Huskies have a home mid-week matchup on Wednesday, Mar. 12, at 6:30 p.m. against Prairie View A&M and then have four games in town against Rice this weekend with two being played at Reckling Park and two at Husky Field.
