Huskies travel to San Antonio to face UIW in their first Southland Conference series of the season

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – HCU baseball begins Southland Conference play with a three-game series against UIW, starting Friday, Feb. 28, at 2:05 p.m. in San Antonio. The series continues on Saturday at 2:05 p.m. and wraps up on Sunday at 1:05 p.m.

The Huskies (4-3) are coming off a 1-12 loss at UTSA on Tuesday night. Rhett Hendricks tripled and later scored on a groundout by Trevor Roper, while Jack Walker collected two of the team's five hits.

UIW (7-2) also enters the weekend looking to bounce back after a 0-6 loss to No. 15 Texas on Tuesday. JD Gregson and Thomas Lyssy recorded the only two hits for the Cardinals in the loss.

Through the early stretch of the season, Walker, Ben Smith, and Luke Bard have been standout contributors for the Huskies. Walker leads the team with a .435 batting average and 1.022 OPS, tallying 10 hits, two doubles, and four RBIs in seven games. On the mound, Smith has dominated with a 0.00 ERA and 0.43 WHIP over 7.0 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out six. Behind the plate, Bard has been rock-solid defensively, posting a 1.000 fielding percentage on 41 chances and throwing out two of five stolen base attempts.

Following the weekend series, the Huskies return home to host McNeese for their first home SLC series from March 7-9 at Husky Field.
