BSB: Huskies Take on Warhawks in Weekend Road Series

HCU Travels to ULM for Three-Game Matchup

MONROE, La. – The HCU baseball team (3-1) is set to face ULM in a three-game weekend series at Lou St. Amant Field. The Huskies and Warhawks open play on Friday at 1:00 p.m., followed by a 10:30 a.m. start on Saturday, with the series finale scheduled for Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

HCU (3-1) enters the series after a strong showing against Central Michigan at Husky Field, taking three out of four games. The Huskies bounced back from a 6-0 loss in the series opener to win the next three games, securing victories of 5-0, 15-3, and 9-6.

The Huskies' offense has been fueled by standout performances at the plate, with Katcher Halligan leading the team in batting average (.438), slugging percentage (.563), and total bases (9). Jack Walker follows closely, hitting .429 while ranking second in hits (6) and total bases (7). Robert Oropeza has been a key run producer with a team-high six RBIs, while Luke Bard leads the squad with five walks and has recorded HCU's only triple. Kenneth Dutka has also been a consistent contributor, ranking among the team leaders in batting average (.333), hits (5), and stolen bases (2).

On the mound, HCU has received strong performances from its pitching staff. Ben Smith had a dominant start against CMU, holding the Chippewas to a .053 batting average while going six innings with four strikeouts. Smith and Joshua Caravalho each earned wins in their respective starts. Caravalho logged five innings with four strikeouts, while Parker Edwards leads the Huskies with six strikeouts in his first start of the season.

ULM (3-1) opened the season by taking two of three games at home against Eastern Illinois before earning a mid-week win over Grambling this past Tuesday. The Warhawks boast a team batting average of .346 with three starters batting .500 or better. Senior catcher Tony Lindwedel is 5-for-9 at the plate with a .556 average to lead the team while junior Jake Haggard has already driven in 10 runs. The ULM pitching staff has a 3.97 team ERA through four games, limiting opposing hitters to just a .242 average.

Next week, the Huskies will travel to San Antonio, Texas to face UTSA on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 6:00 p.m.
