MGOLF: Huskies Set to Compete in Border Olympics

HCU prepares for second tournament of the spring season in Laredo

LAREDO, Texas – The HCU men's golf team will compete in the Border Olympics, taking place on February 17-18 at Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas. This marks the Huskies' second tournament of the spring season, after finishing ninth at the Bentwater Intercollegiate with a +33 overall. The Huskies opened strong with rounds of +1 in both the first and second rounds, but faced challenges in the final round, posting a +20. Chattanooga claimed the team title at -2.

Brendon Willey led the Huskies with a 15th-place finish at +4 for the tournament. He carded a final-round score of 78 (+7), with a birdie on the ninth and 14th holes. Mason Napier placed 35th at +8 overall, posting the team's best final-round score with a 74 (+3). Roy Barrera IV and Clayton Smith both finished tied for 47th at +11. Brooks Pawlak rounded out the lineup, placing 71st at +20.

The Huskies' lineup for the Border Olympics includes Brendon Willey, Brooks Pawlak, Mason Napier, Roy Barrera IV, and Clayton Smith.


The team will begin with a shotgun start at 8:00 AM, paired with New Mexico State and Wright State University. The players will take to the course early, with Brendon Willey starting on Hole 14, Mason Napier on Hole 15, Clayton Smith on Hole 16, Roy Barrera IV on Hole 17, and Brooks Pawlak on Hole 18B.

Next up, the Huskies will host the Colin Montgomerie Invitational on March 3-4 at Sweetwater Country Club in Sugar Land, Texas.
