HOUSTON, Texas –
Edouard Lecrivain and
Eline Mast set new school records in the mile as the HCU track & field teams performed well at the Howie Ryan Invitational, hosted by the University of Houston, in the team's final meet ahead of the conference championship.
Lecrivain, who set a new program record in the mile at the FasTrak Collegiate Challenge, became the first HCU runner to run the mile in under four minutes, clocking a time of 3:59.02 to win the race by more than 12 seconds. Mast, meanwhile, broke a record held by
Jessica Rabius with a winning time of 4:40.41 to win comfortable by more than 24 seconds.
In the women's high jump,
Chimaoge Nwokedi finished in first place with
Kennedy Doakes finishing second as both cleared 1.72m/5-7.75. That height marks an indoor PR for both Huskies.
Josh Gillis-Harry leapt 7.09m/23-3.25 for a new PR in the long jump, placing sixth. Meanwhile, in the men's triple jump,
Dadrian Calhoun and Gillis-Harry placed third and fourth. Calhoun posted a top jump of 14.82m/48-7.5 with Gillis-Harry reaching 14.77m/48-5.5.
Sophomore
Abderahman Benfodda finished in second place in the men's 3000-meters, posting a time of 8:24.84, while
Leandre Lahalle finished in 8:29.03, placing fourth.
Noelle Huijser came in fifth in the women's 800 meters, finishing in 2:18.51. In the men's 400 meters,
Denzel Hinds raced to a time of 49.15, placing fifth.
Next up for the Huskies will be the Southland Conference Indoor Championships on March 2nd and 3rd in Birmingham, Ala. at the Birmingham Crossplex.
