WSOC: Rematch with East Texas on Deck to Open SLC Tournament

The Huskies enter the 2025 tournament as the No. 5 seed

BEAUMONT, Texas – HCU women's soccer closed out the regular season with a pair of shutouts to climb into fifth place in the Southland Conference standings and a matchup against the East Texas A&M Lions on Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the LU Soccer Complex to kickoff the 2025 Southland Conference Tournament.

ETAMU (7-7-4, 4-2-4 SLC) is a familiar foe for the Huskies (9-8-2, 4-4-2 SLC), seeing as HCU earned a 2-0 win over the Lions in Commerce this past Thursday to wrap up conference play. Sophomore forward Ella Remy netted both goals for the Huskies as she finished off the regular season by scoring four goals in a three-game span. Her four goals are tied for the team-lead this season along with junior Isabella Dillow.

Senior defender Alexia Murillo was named a first team all-conference selection on Monday morning by the Southland Conference. She has started all 19 game this year for the Huskies and has left the pitch for a total of 50 minutes. Murillo leads all HCU players with four assists this season.

In goal, Emmy McKeon has posted four shutouts with three of those coming in SLC play. McKeon boasts a save percentage of .805 with a 1.23 goals against average.

East Texas A&M saw four players selected to the SLC all-conference teams, including forward Hannah Bell as a first team honoree. Bell has four goals and three assists on the year while fellow forward Mya Mitchell leads the Lions with seven goals and three assists and was a second team selection. Sophomore Alana Lawless-Felarca was a second team midfield selection while freshman defender Malaya Ring earned a second team selection as a defender.

The last time the Huskies and Lions met in the SLC Tournament was in 2023 when the No. 7 seed Huskies stunned the second-seeded Lions, 2-1, for just the third-ever seven-over-two win in the tournament's history.

The winner of Tuesday's game will advance to face the winner of the 1:00 p.m. matchup between No. 1 seed Northwestern State and No. 8 seed McNeese on Thursday, Nov. 6, at 4:00 p.m.
