COMMERCE, Texas – HCU football heads to northeast Texas for the final road game of the 2025 season, taking on the East Texas A&M Lions at Memorial Stadium this Saturday at 4:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ while Nicholas Pietrzycki provides the radio play-by-play call on Patriot Talk 920 AM.
The Huskies (2-8, 1-5 SLC) and Lions (2-8, 2-4 SLC) are both looking to snap losing skids on Saturday with HCU having lost its last four while ETAMU has dropped three-straight. The Huskies fell to 17
th-ranked and league-leading SFA last weekend and the Lions fell at home to McNeese.
HCU started redshirt junior
Reilly Garcia last Saturday, giving him his first start of the year, with the Gilbert, Ariz. native completing 12-of-19 passes for 132 yards. Junior linebacker
Trent Zappe led the defense with 10 tackles, his second time this season reaching double-figures in tackles.
Rodney Dansby added nine tackles for the Huskies, officially moving into second in program history for career tackles with 423.
The Huskies' secondary continues to shine, ranking second the Southland with just 166.4 yards allowed per game through the air. The team's 13 interceptions is tied for third-most nationally and ranks second in the conference.
The Lions are led offensively by senior receiver Christian Jourdain who has hauled in 47 receptions for 641 yards, the fifth-most receiving yards in the conference. At quarterback, Eric Rodriguez and Ron Peace have both played significant time. Rodriguez has completed 92-of-150 for 1,072 yards, seven touchdowns and five interceptions while Peace has thrown six touchdowns with five interceptions while completing 93-of-170 for 1,374 yards.
Senior Koby-Sebasyen King leads the ETAMU defense in tackles (91), sacks (5.5) and tackles for loss (12) this season.
The Huskies are 1-2 all-time against the Lions but 0-2 in Commerce. The Huskies fell in a shootout at Memorial Stadium last year, losing 41-40. HCU took a 40-28 lead late in the third quarter but the Lions fought back and took a one-point lead on a touchdown with just 36 seconds left to play. After a failed two-point conversion, HCU took over at their own 30 following a touchback on the kickoff. The Huskies moved the ball down to the ETAMU 22-yard line but a
Dillon Fedor 39-yard field goal attempt was no good at the end of regulation.
HCU will wrap up the 2025 season next Saturday, Nov. 22, against UIW at Husky Stadium at 2:00 p.m.
