NICHOLLS, La. – HCU fell behind in the first 24 minutes but freshman
Katya Alexis pulled the Huskies level in the 32
nd minute with neither team finding the goal over the course of the final 58 minutes as the Huskies and Nicholls Colonels played to a 1-1 final in Southland Conference play.
Alexia Murillo had a shot on target at the 4:00 mark but the Nicholls (4-7-2, 1-3-1 SLC) keeper, Aislinn Wright, made the save. The Colonels registered the next shot on goal with
Emmy McKeon making a save on a shot from Samantha Doyle but Kaylie Harris was there to knock hom a goal off a deflection.
The HCU (6-6-2, 1-2-2 SLC) equalizer came less than eight minutes later on a header from Alexis off a corner kick delivered into the box by
Tiana Thompson.
Zylee Dominguez and
Madison Stormberg both had shots stopped before the end of the half.
In the second half, both teams had a pair of shots on goal with Wright and McKeon each keeping the half scoreless.
HCU held a 15-6 advantage in shots with five on goal to the Colonels' four. The Huskies earned seven corner kicks while the hosts didn't take one.
The goal and assist for Alexis and Thompson were the first of the year both. In goal, McKeon was credited with three saves on the evening.
The Huskies will be back at home on Sunday, Oct. 12, afternoon for a 1:00 p.m. match against the UIW Cardinals at Sorrels Field.
