WSOC: Huskies Fall to Lady Lions, 2-1

Ella Remy nets her first goal of the season

HAMMOND, La. – Ella Remy scored her first goal of the season to cut the HCU deficit in half but the Huskies fell in a 2-1 final to Southeastern in Southland Conference women's soccer action on Thursday night at Strawberry Stadium.

Southeastern (5-7-4, 4-3-2 SLC) struck first with Brooke Opferman found the goal in the 22nd minute on a rebound of a long shot attempt stopped by goalkeeper Emmy McKeon. The HCU (7-8-2, 2-4-2 SLC) offense struggled to get going in the first half and trailed 1-0 at the half.

The Lady Lions doubled their lead in the 54th minute when Alexandra Knight headed home a goal over McKeon who was charging out to try and clear the cross into the box. The Huskies got onto the board in the 67th minute on a set piece that started from the HCU defensive half. Alexia Murillo sent a long ball down field that was flicked on by Paisley Barela toward goal where Ella Remy deftly got her right foot on the ball and put it past Kendall Curran to pull within one.

The Huskies finished the night with three shots on goal on eight total shot attempts. The host Lady Lions took 14 shots with eight shots on target. McKeon finished the night with six saves in goal for the Huskies. Remy's goal was her first of the season while Murillo now has a team-high four assists.

HCU will be home at Sorrels Field for the team's home finale and Senior Day this Sunday, Oct. 26, at 1:00 p.m. with the team's senior recognition occurring at the conclusion of the match.
