MATHEWS, La. — Houston Christian men's golf closed out Monday in third place at 15-under (561) after two rounds at the La Tour Intercollegiate, hosted by Nicholls at LaTour Golf Club in Mathews, Louisiana. The Huskies posted team rounds of 280 and 281 to remain within striking distance heading into Tuesday's final round.
Senior
Mason Napier led the way with a two-round total of 136 (-8). After opening with a 1-under 71, Napier surged in Round 2 with a 7-under 65 that featured eight birdies, including a streak of four straight on holes 11–14. He will begin Tuesday tied for second individually and is set to tee off at 8:00 a.m. from Hole 1.
Carter Patterson followed with rounds of 68 and 73 for a 3-under total of 141, highlighted by six birdies in his opening round and a steady even-par finish over his final nine holes Monday afternoon. Patterson enters the final day tied for 10th and will tee off at 8:08 a.m. from Hole 1.
Sophomore
Brooks Pawlak turned in a 68 in Round 1 followed by a 74 in Round 2 to sit at 2-under (142), tied for 16th overall. Pawlak carded five birdies in his opening round and stayed even through the front nine of his second before a late bogey stretch. He will start his final round at 8:16 a.m. from Hole 1.
Brendon Willey remained consistent with back-to-back even-par 72s, good for a tie for 23rd at 144. Willey recorded birdies on holes 2, 10, and 16 during the afternoon session and will tee off at 8:24 a.m. from Hole 1.
Freshman John "Cooper" Camp rebounded in Round 2, shooting an even-par 72 after a 78 in the morning to finish 6-over (150) and tied for 49th. Camp will begin his final round at 8:32 a.m. from Hole 1.
Competing individually,
Clayton Smith improved in the afternoon with a 70 following a 76 in Round 1, finishing the day at 2-over (146) and tied for 36th. Smith will tee off at 8:32 a.m. from Hole 10.
LaTour Golf Club, a par-72 course stretching 7,177 yards, has played favorably to low scores this week, with 28 players under par heading into the final round. The Huskies will look to make a final push up the leaderboard Tuesday morning when play resumes with shotgun tee times beginning at 8 a.m.
