NACOGDOCHES, Texas – On Sunday afternoon at the SFA Soccer Field, the HCU women's soccer team fell by a 2-0 margin in Southland Conference play to host Stephen F. Austin.
The Huskies (7-7-2, 2-3-2 SLC) fell behind in the 22
nd minute when SFA (6-3-8, 4-1-3 SLC) had a series of shots with one bouncing off the right post before a rebound attempt was blistered at the goal but
Emmy McKeon deflected it off the crossbar. A few seconds later, a loose ball in the box was tapped in by SFA's Brielle Buchanan. The hosts doubled their lead with less than three minutes left in the first half as Alexis Miller put a shot past McKeon with an assist from Lucie Platt.
In the second half,
Jasmine Diaz,
Zylee Dominguez and
Paisley Barela all had shots attempts on goal but SFA keeper Sierra McCluer stopped all three to keep HCU off the board.
SFA held a 27-9 advantage in shots attempted, putting nine of those on goal to HCU's three. The Huskies earned three corner kicks on the day while conc3ding five to the Lumberjacks.
The Huskies trek to Hammond, La. to face the Southeastern Lady Lions this Thursday, Oct. 23, at 7:00 p.m. at Strawberry Stadium.
