HOUSTON – HCU's
Edouard Lecrivain and
Raphael Aureau both ran school record times in the men's mile to lead the Huskies at the FasTrak Collegiate Challenge to open the 2025 indoor season on Saturday at the University of Houston Yeoman Fieldhouse.
With both running in heat one of the men's mile, Lecrivain and Aureau controlled the race from the start. Both runners broke the previous HCU record of 4:08.81 set by
Alex Piquart last year with Lecrivain winning the race with a new record time of 4:05.52 with Aureau crossing next in 4:07.60. In the women's mile, junior
Eline Mast earned the win by nearly five seconds with a PR time of 4:49.77.
Junior
Destiny Quintanilla took the top spot in the women's 3,000 meters, running a PR time of 10:00.18 with teammate
Katherine Rogers placing third with a mark of 10:05.21.
Macie Hunter and
Arlette Concepcion crossed the finish line in seventh and eighth, respectively, with times of 10:29.41 and 10:41.44.
Leandre Lahalle ran a strong 8:40.80 in the men's 3,000 meters to place third while
Colby Kurtz finished fifth with a time of 8:48.65 and
Abderahman Benfodda posted a time of 8:49.33 and came in seventh.
Ashton Munoz-Nieves and freshman
Benny Haywood each qualified for the finals of the 60-meter hurdles with Haywood winning his heat thanks to a time of 8.11 while Munoz-Nieves moved on with a mark of 8.24. Haywood didn't run in the finals but Munoz-Nieves placed second with a PR time of 8.11. In the women's 60h,
Brianna Hinds and
Lanaye Keys both moved on from prelims. Keys won her heat in 9.38 with Hinds advancing with a time of 9.11. In the finals, Hinds placed sixth in 9.29 while Keys crossed in 9.55 to finish eighth.
In the men's 400 meters,
Denzel Hinds posted a top-three finish with a time 49.13 to place third while
Jacob Smith came in fifth in the men's 800 meters with a mark of 1:56.18.
Freshman
Kade Stevens kicked off his HCU career with a fifth-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.90m/6-2.75. In the women's high jump,
Samantha Rabius set a new PR and freshman
Chimaoge Nwokedi cleared 1.60m/5-3.
In the men's long jump, sophomore
Josh Gillis-Harry and
Dadrian Calhoun placed first and second with Gillis-Harry leaping to an indoor PR of 6.90m/22-7.75 and Calhoun reaching 6.88m/22-7. The duo also went one-two in the triple jump with Gillis-Harry taking first on a PR jump of 15.09m/49-6.25 and Calhoun hitting an indoor PR of 14.54m/47-8.5.
Anouk Verdaasdonk placed seventh in the women's long jump at her HCU debut meet, leaping 5.49m/18-0.25.
Tasheba Pleasant took sixth in the triple jump with a top mark of 11.43m/37-6.
HCU will be back at Yeoman Fieldhouse next weekend on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 31-Feb. 1, for the Robert Platt Invitational.
