BSB: Huskies Run-Ruled in 7 innings in Series Opener

HCU held to four hits in game one at Alumni Field

Box Score HAMMOND, LOUISIANA – The Huskies opened the three-game series against SLU on Pat Kenelly Diamond falling, 11-1, in seven innings. HCU was held to just four hits and three walks in the series opener.

The Lions grabbed an early lead posting five runs in the bottom of the first inning before adding two runs in the bottom of the third. The Huskies got on the board in the top of the fourth when Samuel Benjamin scored on a fielding error by SLU's shortstop after drawing a lead-off walk. The Lion's offense increased their lead to nine runs after recording three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. After adding a run in the bottom of the seventh inning, SLU secured the series opener, 11-1.

The Huskies (7-18, 0-4 SLC) were led by Ty Hodge going 2-for-3 with a pair of singles. Parker Edwards and Katcher Halligan each went 1-for-3 with a single while Benjamin went 0-for-2 with a pair of walks and a run. Nicholas Williard (2-3) was tagged with the loss pitching .1 innings to start the game allowing five runs, four earned runs, on three hits with two walks and a strikeout. Baylor Baumann pitched 5.1 innings of relief giving up five earned runs on eight hits with three walks and four strikeouts.

SLU (18-8, 3-1 SLC) was led by Shea Thomas going 3-for-3 with a double, a walk and a pair of RBIs and runs. Justin Williams went 3-for-4 with two runs, an RBI and a walk while TJ Salvaggio went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs, two runs and a walk. Brennan Stuprich (3-2) earned the win, pitching six innings to start the game allowing one run, no earned runs, on two hits with a trio of walks and strikeouts. Aiden Vosburg pitched one shutout inning of relief giving up two hits.
