SB: Huskies finish off homestand on Tuesday versus cross-town foe Texas Southern

HCU heads to SFA for three over the weekend; six-game homestand starts next Tuesday

HCU vs. TEXAS SOUTHERN
Houston Christian University finishes off a five-game homestand when it hosts cross-town foe Texas Southern University on Tuesday at Husky Field. First pitch is scheduled for 4 pm.

The Huskies went 3-2 last week, falling at No. 2 University of Texas on Wednesday before defeating North Dakota on Thursday at home to kick off the homestand. HCU then won two of three games in the Husky Classic on Saturday and Sunday, with a win over Prairie View A&M and a split of a pair of games with Missouri-Kansas City.

After the loss at Texas, the Huskies came back with a 3-2 victory the next afternoon over North Dakota. Katy Janes stifled the bats of North Dakota and a two-run double by Maggie Childs in the bottom of the sixth proved to be the game-winner. Lyndie Swanson then shut down Prairie View in Saturday's first game, scattering eight hits and fanning seven, while Breana Herrera drove in half of HCU's runs in the 6-0 blanking of the Panthers.

HCU would fall to Kansas City in the Saturday evening nightcap, but rebounded on Sunday afternoon, as Kynleigh Evans picked up her first collegiate victory in a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Roos. Swanson came on in the seventh to extinguish a bases-loaded fire for the save, which gave the Huskies a 3-1 mark on the homestand with one to play.

Jasie Roberts continues to lead the Huskies in hitting with a .412 average. Haylie Savage cranked a homer off the top of the scoreboard on Saturday evening to take the team lead in dingers with two, and she also leads the team with nine RBI while batting .314.

AB Garcia is at .304 on the season with six stolen bases. Maddy Bailey and Childs have eight and seven RBI respectively for the Huskies, who have scored 56 runs in 13 games, averaging 4.3 runs per game thus far.

Swanson, Janes and Ronni Grofman each have two wins for the Huskies. Swanson leads the team in innings and ERA while Katy Janes paces the club in strikeouts with 24 in 22 innings.

Tuesday will be the 66th meeting between the two cross-town foes, with HCU having won four in a row including last year's 8-0 win at Husky Field. The Tigers, now 5-2 on the season, are led offensively by Saniah Henderson, who is batting .400 with a team-best eight RBI through seven games.  Maren Berger headlines the hurlers, sitting at 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA in four appearances.

Following the completion of the homestand, the Huskies will take to Nacogdoches for a three-game series with Stephen F. Austin State University on Friday and Saturday. HCU returns home the following Tuesday, welcoming the University of Pennsylvania to Husky Field for a doubleheader that kicks off a six-game homestand.
