Houston Christian University's Jasie Roberts has been named the Jersey Mike's Southland Conference Hitter of the Week for her efforts over the span of February 12-18. It is the first career weekly honor for Roberts.
Roberts helped HCU to a 2-3 week with wins over Marist and New Mexico at the ACU Tournament in Abilene. She had three two-hit games over the five-game weekend, twice against the Red Foxes of Marist and again in the tournament finale against Abilene Christian.
The senior from Deer Park has continued to make her push towards several of the Top 10 career leaderboards for HCU. She is now just nine hits and eight RBI shy of both of those lists, and is in striking distance as well in runs, at-bats, games played and walks.
Roberts batted .615 on the week with a .643 on base percentage. She slugged 1.154 upping and increased her season OPS to 1.283.
In the two games against Marist, Roberts went a combined 4-6 with a triple, homer, two RBI and three runs scored. She went 1-3 against New Mexico with a two-run single that proved to be all starting pitcher Ronni Grofman needed in support.
She ended the five-game stay in Abilene going 2-4 with her second triple of the weekend in the heartbreaking loss to host ACU in the tournament finale.
On the season through eight games, Roberts leads the team with a .478 batting average. She is second on the club in hits and tied for second with
Maggie Childs and
Maddy Bailey with five RBI.
HCU is 4-4 on the season heading into a busy stretch later this week. The Huskies hit the road again on Wednesday, heading to Austin to take on University of Texas. The Longhorns are 7-0 and ranked No. 3 as of this release, having defeated No.2 Tennessee and No. 9 Stanford in their only games last week.
The Huskies will play their home opener on Thursday against University of North Dakota at 4 pm. HCU will then host the Husky Classic Friday-Sunday.
