HOUSTON, Texas – The Huskies closed out the season opening series against Le Moyne with walk–off wins in both games. In a dueling defensive matchup that saw both teams allowing five hits total, the Huskies prevailed in game one of double-header Sunday ending with a thrilling walk-off single through the left side by
Dylan LaRue scoring
Damian Ruiz.
Transfer senior,
Nicholas Willard (1-0), notched the win pitching three shutout innings of relief giving up two hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Veteran
Rye Gunter started game one for the Huskies pitching four shutout innings allowing three hits with five walks and five strikeouts.
In an action-packed game two of the double-header, the Huskies (3-1) struck first posting three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Tyler LaRue.

Damian Ruiz scored on a throwing error by Le Moyne's third baseman, Adam Sullivan. The Huskies extended their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning with
Luke Bard scoring on a balk by the Dolphin's, Max Danaher, before
Dylan LaRue scored on a
Tyler LaRue single up the middle.
Samuel Benjamin scored on a wild pitch to give the Huskies a 6-0 lead through five innings. Le Moyne narrowed the margin tallying four runs in the top of the sixth inning and tied the game at 6-6 in the top of the seventh. With the threat of the second extra inning game of the series on the line, HCU's
Ty Hodge singled through the left side on a 3-2 count leading off the bottom of the seventh inning. After a failed pickoff attempt led to Hodge advancing to third base, HCU's
Trevor Roper hit a walk-off sacrifice fly to right field scoring Hodge and handing the Huskies their third walk-off of opening weekend.
HCU's
Cash McNicholas (1-0) earned the win in game two pitching one shutout inning of relief with a walk and two strikeouts. Freshman
Keevyn Goss started the game for the Huskies pitching 3.1 shutout innings with five strikeouts and three walks.
The Huskies were led by
Dylan LaRue going 3-for-7 on the day with two runs and an RBI.
Tyler LaRue went 3-for-5 on the day with two RBIs, a run and a walk.
Damian Ruiz went 1-for-2 in game two with a walk and a run while
Katcher Halligan went 2-for-3 in game one.
Le Moyne (1-3) was led by Wyatt Patchett going 1-for-3 on the day with a double, two runs and two walks. Mike Whelehan went 1-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Andrew Roden went 1-for-3 in game one and pitched four innings to start the game in game two allowing three runs, two earned runs, on five hits with a walk and three strikeouts.
The Huskies return to the diamond for a midweek matchup on Tuesday, taking on the University of Texas at UFCU Disch-Falk Field in Austin with the first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The Longhorns (2-1) are led by Jared Thomas batting .545 average on the season with seven runs, six hits, four walks, two doubles and an RBI. Peyton Powell is hitting .462 average on the year with seven RBIs, six hits, two runs, a homer and a walk.
