HOUSTON, Texas – In what was scheduled to be the first of two seven inning games on Saturday at Husky Field, HCU tied things up with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to force extra innings but missed chances in the eighth and ninth came back to haunt them before ultimately falling to visiting Le Moyne, 11-4, in 10 innings. As a result of the extended game on Saturday, the second game of the doubleheader scheduled for Saturday has been moved to Sunday for a doubleheader starting at noon.
After allowing two Le Moyne (1-1) runs to score in the top of the second, the Huskies (1-1) got on the board in the bottom half of the inning with
Luke Bard reaching on a two-out walk and then scoring three batters later on a wild pitch. The Dolphins extended their lead to three runs, 4-1, in the top of the sixth inning and maintained that lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.
Dylan LaRue opened the inning with a single followed by a
Samuel Benjamin walk to give HCU a pair of runners. Following a
Tyler LaRue strikeout, the two runners advanced on a balk before
William Jewell singled through the left side to plate LaRue and advance Benjamin to third.
Damian Ruiz lofted a sacrifice fly to bring home Benjamin and cut the HCU deficit to one. Pinch runner
Ty Dagley moved up to second on a balk and then scored on a fielding error by the Le Moyne shortstop on a ball hit by
Katcher Halligan to even things up at 4-4.
The Huskies managed to load the bases in bottom of the eighth with just one out and then again with two outs in the ninth but were unable to push across the winning run either time. The Dolphins offense came alive in the top of the 10th thanks to four hits and four errors by the HCU defense, pushing across seven runs to put the game away.
