HOUSTON – The HCU football team wraps up its 2024 campaign this Saturday with a Southland Conference matchup against the Northwestern State Demons at 2:00 p.m. at Husky Stadium. Husky fans can watch on ESPN+ with Randy McIlvoy providing play-by-play alongside analyst Brennan Young or listen in on Patriot Talk 920 AM with Luke Mauro providing play-by-play.

The Huskies (4-7, 2-4 SLC) are coming off a heartbreaking 41-40 loss at East Texas A&M last Saturday. HCU fell behind 21-7 in the second quarter before scoring the game's next 19 points for a 33-21 lead. The Huskies then led 40-28 with 3:01 left in the third quarter before the Lions fought back and took a 41-40 lead with just 36 seconds left to play. HCU drove the ball down the field to set up a 44-yard field goal try with five seconds on the clock. That attempt missed but an illegal formation penalty on ETAMU moved the ball up five yards. Dillon Fedor's attempt from 39 with time expired missed wide right.

Wide receiver AJ Wilson continued his streak of 100-yard receiving games with four catches for 206 yards and three touchdowns. Wilson had touchdown receptions of 45, 67 and 75 yards while posting the second-highest receiving yards in a game in program history, just three short of Josh Sterns' 209 yards at Texas Tech in 2020. Wilson is now averaging 27 yards per reception to lead all of Division I football, both FBS and FCS.

Cutter Stewart threw for a career-high 310 yards while also rushing for 32 yards on six carries. On defense, D.J. Harris had a monster game with 15 tackles, five tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, two quarterback hurries and a pass breakup. Semaj Brown came up with his third interception this season and his third pick six of the year while Khary Crump also recorded his third interception and added three more pass breakups. He leads the SLC with 13 passes defended.

Northwestern State (0-11, 0-6 SLC) most recently dropped its home finale to McNeese, 35-3. The Demons are led by junior linebacker Blake Gotcher who leads the nation with 146 total tackles and an average of 13.3 tackles per game with double-figure tackles in all but one game this season. He also has 9.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks on the year. Cornerback Caesar Magee III leads the secondary with three interceptions and eight breakups.

Offensively, NSU has three different quarterbacks with 46 passing attempts or more on the season along with another quarterback primarily used as a wildcat QB. Redshirt freshman JT Fayard has the most snaps on the season and is 65-of-139 passing for 814 yards with three touchdowns and seven interceptions.

The Huskies are 2-5 all-time against the Demons with HCU credited for a forfeit win last season. The last meeting in Houston was a 37-10 Demons win in 2022.
