VB: Huskies Aim to Bounce Back at New Orleans

HCU faces Privateers looking for split of Louisiana road trip

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – The HCU volleyball team heads to New Orleans on Saturday, November 2, at 1 p.m. to take on the Privateers in another Southland Conference (SLC) matchup.

HCU has displayed both resilience and competitive spirit throughout their SLC season, achieving a mix of decisive wins and close losses. The Huskies started with strong victories over Nicholls and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, both ending 3-1, but later faced setbacks against teams like Stephen F. Austin and UT Rio Grande Valley. After a hard-fought five-set match against Incarnate Word ended in a narrow 2-3 loss, HCU rebounded with a 3-2 win over Lamar and a solid 3-1 victory against McNeese. Despite recent losses to Southeastern, Texas A&M-Commerce, and Northwestern State, the Huskies remain determined to secure a stronger standing in the conference.

The HCU team leaders have consistently showcased impressive skills on the court. Audrey Pearce leads in kills with 249, closely followed by Emerald Jacobs with 215 and Ana Garza with 162, highlighting the offensive strength of the lineup. Grace McLaughlin commands the playmaking role with an impressive 829 assists, while Bianca Byerly leads on the service line with 27 aces. Defensively, Tatiana Evans is a standout with 323 digs, followed by McLaughlin's 238, underscoring their reliability in the back row. Pearce is also a force at the net with 99 blocks, complemented by Garza and Allana Archie in the front row.

The Privateers have faced a challenging SLC season, struggling to secure a win. With multiple 0-3 losses, including recent defeats against Stephen F. Austin and McNeese, they've yet to gain traction in conference play. However, standout performances from key players continue to drive their efforts. Courtney Roundtree leads the team in kills with 168, while Defne Eciroglu contributes significantly with 318 assists. Lani Alleman commands the back row with 181 digs, and Roundtree leads at the net with 51 blocks. As the Privateers aim to regroup, their upcoming matches provide a chance to make strides in the standings.
