HOUSTON – HCU junior linebacker
Rodney Dansby added another preseason honor on Tuesday when he was named a Stats Perform FCS Preseason All-America Second Team selection.
Dansby has already been named a HERO Sports Preseason All-American for the upcoming 2023 season and was one of five Huskies named to the Southland Conference Preseason All-Conference team.
The junior finished last season with 126 tackles after totaling 130 during his freshman campaign. His 256 total tackles during the previous two seasons rank second among all FCS players with only Fordham's James Conway who had 258. He was a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, presented by Stats Perform to the FCS Defensive Player of the Year, last season.
Dansby led the nation during the regular season with 11.5 tackles per game and earned first team all-Southland Conference honors in 2022. He also finished last season with eight tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, a pair of fumble recoveries and an interception.
He is one of three SLC players included among the three teams selected by Stats Perform, joined by Southeastern offensive lineman Zack Gieg on the first team and Nicholls offensive lineman Evan Roussel on the third team.
HCU opens the 2023 season on Saturday, Sep. 2, vs. Arkansas Baptist at 6:00 p.m. at Husky Stadium.
