BEAUMONT, Texas – HCU baseball travels to Beaumont for the final regular season series of the 2023 season this Thursday, May 18 through Saturday, May 20 at Vincent-Beck Stadium on the Lamar campus. The Huskies are still alive in the hunt for a Southland Conference tournament spot, a sweep of the Cardinals over the coming days.
HCU (11-34, 7-13 SLC) is led on the offensive side of the ball by junior infielder
Reed Chumley, batting .392 with 35 runs scored, 34 RBI, 17 doubles, and 10 home runs on the season. Junior outfielder
Samuel Benjamin is owns a .357 average with 36 runs scored, 47 RBI, 12 doubles, a triple, and 11 home runs. Freshman catcher
Dylan LaRue is batting .299 with 26 runs scored, 33 RBI, 12 doubles, two triples, and five home runs.
Lamar (29-21, 10-11 SLC) are led by Tanner Wilson with a .339 average with 22 runs, 12 RBI and four doubles on the season while Ben MacNaughton is batting .316, scoring 35 runs and driving in 22 with seven doubles and a triple.
HCU trails Lamar in the all-time series record 23-33. In their last matchup, the Huskies were downed 4-3 in a defensive battle against the Cardinals at the 2023 Sugar Land Classic in the 10
th inning, a game that recorded 17 hits and seven runs scored, total.
