HOUSTON, TX –The Huskies host SLU for a three-game Southland Conference series. The three-game series will commence with a double-header on Friday, May 12
th at Reckling Park, on the campus of Rice, at 1 p.m. and conclude on Saturday, May 13
th at Husky Field at 1 p.m.
HCU is 8-16 all-time against the Lions with the last win coming in game three of the 2021 conference series. The last time the Huskies hosted SLU, 2017, HCU swept the series at Husky Field scoring 18 runs to the Lions, 10 runs. In the previous matchup between SLU and the Huskies, HCU was knocked out of the 2022 Southland Conference Tournament in a, 4-12, loss in Hammond, La.

Reed Chumley batting .386 avg. with 34 runs, 33 RBIs, 17 doubles, and nine home runs on the season. Junior outfielder
Samuel Benjamin is hitting .344 avg. with 46 RBIs, 33 runs, 12 doubles, a triple, and 10 home runs on the year. Senior infielder
Austin Roccaforte is coming off a great series against New Orleans going 8-for-15 (.533 avg.) with a double, five runs, and three RBIs in the series.
Junior righthander
Rye Gunter (1-3) is probable to start game one for the Huskies. Gunter has a 6.21 ERA in 12 appearances, eight starts, pitching 42 inning with a 1.71 WHIP and 38 strikeouts. Gunter pitched 4.1 shutout innings in his start against Northwestern State and allowed one run to Nicholls in three innings of relief before giving up four runs in his last two starts against TAMCC and New Orleans. Chad Ricker (4-2) is the probable starter for game two. This would be Ricker's first start of the season with a 5.70 ERA in 19 appearances pitching 30 innings with a 1.67 WHIP and 22 strikeouts. Ricker has held opponents scoreless in his last three outings including an inning of relief against SFA and three innings of relief last weekend against New Orleans.
Southeastern Louisiana (19-25, 4-14 SLC) are led by Tyler Finke who is hitting .313 avg. with 42 runs, 30 RBIs, 12 doubles, two triples, and three home runs on the season. Shea Thomas is batting .275 avg. with 39 RBIs, 30 runs, eight doubles, a triple, and three home runs on the year. T.J. Salvaggio is hitting .337 avg. with 26 RBIs, 21 runs, four doubles, a triple, and a team high seven home runs on the season.
