HOUSTON – HCU earned five event wins on Friday at the Cameron Burrell Alumni Invitational held at the Carl Lewis International Complex on the campus of the University of Houston.
Senior
Jessica Rabius won the women's 800 meters by more than nine seconds with an outdoor PR time of 2:08.17 while freshman
Eline Mast raced to a first-place finish in the 1500 meters, crossing in 4:37.25. In the men's 800m,
Alex Piquart finished in 1:52.81 to win the race by four-hundredths of a second. The men's 4x400 meter relay team of
Garrett Gibson,
Denzel Hinds,
Mark Ngei and
Christian Rocha ran a time of 3:15.15 to win the race by less than a second. Hinds also recorded a fourth-place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 49.30.
In field events,
Tjalle-Durk van der Eems earned a win in the men's javelin with a top throw of 48.43m/158-10 while Spencer Blake set a new PR in the shot put with a throw of 15.33m/50-3.50 to place fourth. Blake also finished fifth in the discus with a top mark of 42.54m/139-6.
Brianna Brand leapt 5.67m/18-7.25 in the long jump to place fourth and
Liza Lap placed seventh in the discus with a top throw of 43.48m/142-8.
The Huskies travel to Hammond, La. for the Southeastern Strawberry Relays next Saturday, Apr. 15.
