SB: Garcia selected to TUCCI/NFCA National Top 25 Freshman of the Year Watchlist

Winner selected on May 30 ahead of Women's College World Series

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - AB Garcia has been selected to the 2023 TUCCI/NFCA Division 1 National Freshman of the Year Top 25 watchlist, revealed on Friday afternoon.

A redshirt freshman from Cypress Lakes High School, Garcia is the first HCU softball player to be named an honoree for the award, which was created in 2014. She is one of six players in the group who are their school's first ever honoree.

Garcia leads the Huskies with a .431 batting average and a .456 on-base percentage. She is second in the Southland Conference in hits with 56, and leads the league in runs scored with 35.

She is currently 18-22 in the stolen base department, fifth best in the league and tied for eighth on the HCU single-season charts. Garcia is the second-toughest to strikeout amongst conference players, fanning just eight times in 130 at-bats this season.

May 11 is the trim date of the list to a top 10, and the three finalists will be named on May 25.

This year's Freshman of the Year will be revealed on May 30, just ahead of the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City.

The list of 25 was selected by the NFCA, with the top 10, top three and winner voted on by the NFCA Division 1 All-America Committee.
