BSB: HCU Travel to Nicholls for Three-Game Southland Conference Series

BSB: Huskies play the Colonels at Ray E. Didier Field in Thibodaux

THIBODAUX, La – The Huskies travel for a Southland Conference three-game series against Nicholls on Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field on Friday, April 21st through Sunday, April 23rd.

HCU is 12-17 against the Colonels all-time and 6-4 since 2019. The Huskies won the 2022 conference series against Nicholls 2-1 at Husky Field, and are 4-3 at Nicholls since 2019.

The Huskies (8-24, 5-4 SLC) are led by Junior outfielder Samuel Benjamin who is batting .353 avg. with 31 RBIs, 24 runs, 10 doubles, and six home runs. Senior infielder Reed Chumley, SLC Hitter of the Week, is hitting .344 avg. with 23 runs, 19 RBIs, 10 doubles, and five home runs. Senior infielder Austin Roccaforte is averaging .305 with 24 runs, 14 RBIs, four doubles, a home run, and a team high of 19 walks. Freshman catcher Dylan LaRue is on a 10-game hitting streak with two or more hits in seven of those games batting .463 (19-for-41) with 17 RBIs, 10 runs, five doubles, and four home runs over the stretch.

Freshman righthander Baylor Baumann (0-3) is the probable starter for game one. Baumann has eight appearances, seven starts, for the Huskies pitching 28.1 innings with a 7.94 ERA and a 1.98 WHIP. Graduate student righthander Walker Zander (1-3) is the probable pitcher for game two getting his sixth start, 10th appearance, pitching 32.2 innings with a 7.16 ERA and a 1.81 WHIP. Senior righthander Will Ripoll (0-2) expects to start game three with 10 appearances, six starts, on the year pitching 35.1 innings with a 5.35 ERA and a 1.87 WHIP.

Nicholls (19-16, 5-4 SLC) are led by Edgar Alvarez batting .341 avg. with 25 RBIs, 24 runs, 13 doubles, a triple, four home runs, and a team high 22 walks. Xane Washington is also hitting .341 avg. with 29 runs, 25 RBIs, 12 doubles, three home runs, and two triples. Parker Coddou is averaging .302 with 26 runs, 20 RBIs, 13 doubles, five home runs, and a team high three triples.

The Colonels is probable to start righthander Chase Gearing (1-1) for game one, making his 15th appearance, 2nd start, pitching 30.2 innings with a 4.70 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. Lefthander Michael Quevedo (2-0) is the probable starter for game two, making his 9th appearance, 6th start, pitching 25.1 innings with a 3.55 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP. Righthander Jacob Mayers (4-1) is the probable starter for game three, making his 9th appearance and start for the Colonels pitching 39 innings with a 2.31 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP.
