Damian Ruiz is hitting .250 with five runs scored, a pair of doubles and RBIs, and 10 walks for the Huskies (1-11). Freshman catcher
Dylan LaRue is batting .244 with a homerun, two doubles, five RBIs, and seven runs and junior outfielder
William Jewell is hitting .238 with a homerun, two doubles, five RBIs, and six runs.
For the Owls (5-8), Pierce Gallo is hitting .395 with a double, a home run, seven RBIs and nine runs, while Connor Walsh is hitting. 326 with three home runs, four doubles, a triple, nine RBIs, and 10 runs scored. Drew Holderbach has a homerun, two doubles, six RBIs and has scored seven runs.
Second-year head coaches
Lance Berkman and Jose Cruz Jr., who were teammates at Rice and both went on to Major League careers, meet for the third time as head coaches of their respective programs. Rice won both matchups in 2022 and has claimed the last five meetings between the two programs. HCU's last victory against Rice came in 2021, winning a nail bitter at Reckling Park, 8-7.
