Katy Janes has been named the Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week spanning March 13-19. It is her first-ever weekly accolade, and the first for HCU this season.
Janes led the Huskies to a series opening victory over rival Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Thursday by tossing the first no-hitter of her career.Â
The junior right-hander from Huffman walked just two in the game to go along with five strikeouts. It was the 32nd no-hitter in school history, and first since 2021.Â
She had another 1.1 innings of scoreless relief on Saturday, finishing the week giving up no hits to go with seven strikeouts in 8.1 total innings of work.
Her strong week in the circle lowered her ERA to 2.42, and opponents are hitting just .221 against her. She stands at 5-5 in her third season with the Huskies, with eight complete games out of her nine starts.
HCU secured the first Southland series of the season with two of three from TAMUCC. The Huskies, now 11-16 overall, return to action on Tuesday at Sam Houston State University.
