HOUSTON –
Alex Piquart won the 1,500 meters and set a new meet record at the Kirk Baptiste Spring Invitational hosted by the University of Houston on Thursday to lead the HCU track & field team.
Piquart ran the 1500m in 3:52.82 to win the race by more than seven seconds and improved on the previous meet record by more than four seconds.
Justice Artisst placed third in the race with a time of 4:00.93. Freshman
Destiny Quintanilla took first in the women's 3,000 meters, crossing the finish line in 10:14.50.
Jessica Rabius placed first in the women's 800 meters with a mark of 2:14.47 while
Travis Jacobs placed first in the men's 800m with a time of 1:56.74 followed by
Krzysztof Turski in second at 1:57.24. In hurdles,
Garrett Gibson placed second in both the 110 meter hurdles, finishing in 14.01, and the 400 meter hurdles, finishing in 53.31.
Denzel Hinds came in third in the 400h with a PR time of 53.35.
Sophomore
Destiny Nkeonye placed first in the men's long jump with a top jump of 7.39m/24-3.0 to win by four and a half inches.
Reem Tammam recorded a second place finish in the triple jump, leaping 12.49m/40-11.75, and took third in the long jump with a jump of 5.78m/18-11.75.
Noa Grochowski also jumped 5.78m/18-11.75 in the long jump while
Brianna Brand had a top jump of 5.74m/18-10.0.
In throws,
Tjalle-Durk van der Eems placed second in the men's javelin with a throw of 55.86m/183-3.0. In the women's javelin,
Samantha Rabius posted a top mark of 36.04m/118-3.0 to place third.
HCU will return to the track next weekend at the Rice Victor Lopez Classic on Friday and Saturday, Mar. 24-25.
