Final Results
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – HCU won five golds, two of which belong to senior
Jessica Rabius, and the Huskies' men's and women's teams each placed sixth at the 2023 Southland Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Monday at the Birmingham Crossplex.
The day started for HCU with freshman
Brianna Hinds claiming two points for the Huskies, placing seventh in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.21. Senior
Garrett Gibson then took gold in the men's 60h, running a 7.97 for the first SLC title of his career.
Jessica Rabius made it a double-gold day, first winning the women's mile by nearly five seconds with a time of 4:50.59 and then taking the title in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:54.37.
Alex Piquart earned gold in the men's mile, finishing in 4:23.47 while
Nate Allen crossed the finish line in 4:26.87 to place sixth. Freshman
Eline Mast picked up a silver medal in the women's 800 meters, crossing in 2:12.75, while senior
Travis Jacobs took home silver in the men's 800m, finishing in 1:53.98.
Justice Artisst came in fifth in the men's 3000m, crossing the finish line in 8:28.02.
Rebecca Pecora improved upon her own school record in the high jump, clearing 1.77m/5-9.75, to win gold. Freshman
Yassin Salem just missed out on the podium in the men's triple jump, taking fourth with a PR mark of 14.87m/48-9.50 and finishing just half an inch out of third.
In the last event of the day, the men's 4x400 relay team placed fifth and set a new program record. The team consisting of

Destiny Nkeonye,
Travis Jacobs and
Garrett Gibson recorded a time of 3:15.67 to break the previous record set in 2015.
The HCU women finished sixth overall with a total of 65 points while the men tallied 57.5 points, also placing sixth.
The 2023 outdoor track & field season kicks off for the Huskies on Thursday, Mar. 16, across town at the Carl Lewis International Complex for the Kirk Baptiste Spring Break Invitational.
