HOUSTON – HCU continued a strong indoor season with a new women's distance medley relay record on Friday at the Howie Ryan Invitational held at the Yeoman Fieldhouse on the University of Houston campus.
 
The women's distance medley relay team consisted of three freshman in Eline Mast, Isabel Case, Destinay Quintanilla and one senior in Jessica Rabius, winning the race and setting a new program record and a meet record with a time of 11:43.92.
 
Senior Garrett Gibson placed second in his heat of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.04 to place fourth overall in the prelims. In the finals, he improved that time to 8.00 to finish third. Gibson also ran the 200 meters in 22.23. Rabius also placed second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:12.69 while teammate Mast took third with a time of 2:13.62.
 
In the men's mile, Alex Piquart finished just over a second off the school record time with a mark of 4:10.70 to place third. In the women's mile, Quintanilla finished sixth with a time of 5:06.73. Travis Jacobs finished in fourth in the 800m with a time of 1:54.39 while Denzel Hinds ran a 49.30 in the 400 meters.
 
In the jumps. Freshman Reem Tammam posted a PR mark of 12.33m/40-5.50 in the triple jump for a third place finish while also jumping 5.70m/18-8.50 to place fourth in the long jump. Rebecca Pecora took fifth in the women's long jump with a PR mark of 5.65m/18-6.50. Destiny Nkeonye placed second in the men's long jump with a top leap of 7.10m/18-6.50 while Yassin Salem finished fifth in the triple jump thanks to a jump of  14.69m/48-2.50.
 
The Huskies' final meet of the indoor season prior to the Southland Conference Indoor Championships is set for Friday, Feb. 17, in Lubbock, Texas at the Texas Tech Matador Qualifier.
