WBB: Madelyne Davis Signs NLI to Join Huskies

The Dallas native is a four-year starter at Ursuline Academy

HOUSTON – HCU head women's basketball coach Donna Finnie announced the signing of guard Madelyne Davis on Wednesday afternoon as part of the Huskies' 2023 signing class.

Davis, a Plano, Texas native, has been a four-year starter and was named team captain at Ursuline Academy of Dallas. As a junior, she averaged 13.4 points, 3.9 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game. In both her freshman and sophomore seasons, Davis averaged better than 13 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.5 steals per contest.

"Madi is someone we have recruited for a long time and watched grow through her last few years in high school," said Finnie. "She is the epitome of being 'bought in' and has shown us not only is she going to buy in as a teammate and student but she will fit so well into our campus community. Her enthusiasm is infectious. Having talked with her almost every Sunday evening for the past few years, I can't recall a day she wasn't excited about the opportunities life presents her and I am excited that we get someone like that in our program."

"Madelyne Davis is the ultimate competitor," added Ursuline Academy of Dallas head coach Nikki Nester. "She is a great athlete who plays with passion and effort every time she steps on the floor. She can play and guard multiple positions, and score in a number of ways. She's tough, has a great work ethic, and is an amazing teammate who cares about her peers. Madelyne's work ethic in the classroom, the weight room, and in the gym is unmatched and will help tremendously with her transition to the collegiate level."

Davis has played club basketball for Texas Elite and coach Tom Leverton, starting for the team for 10 years. Most recently, she averaged 12 ppg, 4.5 apg, 4 rpg and 2 spg and has helped lead the team to back-to-back titles at Orlando Nationals among other titles.

"Madelyne is one of the most talented and hardworking players I have ever coached. She has a passion for basketball and a drive to succeed that is unmatched. She has been a loyal and dedicated member of our team and I am honored to have coached her," stated Leverton. "She has made a great choice by committing to Houston Christian and I wish her and the team all the best."

"I chose HCU not only because it felt like home when I visited campus but because the coaches and team were so welcoming, and I loved the vibe in H-Town," Davis said. "I'm excited to join my future family for the next 4 years! Go Huskies!"

"On the court she has deep range and has really developed her passing ability this last year," Finnie continued. "I challenged her defensively and saw her go against top-25 guards this past summer and do an incredible job, so I know we are getting someone who takes onboard coaching and will continue to develop. We are thrilled to have Madi and her family join us and look forward to them being on campus soon."
