BSB: Berkman Named to 2024 Houston Sports Hall of Fame Class

The HCU head baseball coach will be inducted at the 2024 Houston Sports Awards

HOUSTON – HCU head baseball coach Lance Berkman has been selected for induction into the Houston Sports Hall of Fame as part of the organization's 2024 class, announced the Harris County – Houston Sports Authority on Thursday.

Berkman, entering his third season as the Huskies head coach, was a five-time all-star during a 15-year Major League Baseball career that included 12 seasons with the Houston Astros. One of the best switch hitters to play the game, Berkman finished his MLB career batting .293 with 1,234 RBI, 1,146 runs scored, 366 home runs and 422 doubles with a .537 slugging percentage.

The Huskies' skipper played collegiately in town at Rice. An all-American for the Owls, Berkman was selected in the first round of the MLB draft by the Astros with the 16th overall selection in 1997.

Berkman is joined in the 2024 class by former Houston Comets star Cynthia Cooper and one more, yet unnamed, honoree.
