MGOLF: Huskies Finish 11th at Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate

HCU climbs three spots up the leaderboard with a final round one-under par, 287, at RidgePoint Country Club

JONESBORO, Arkansas – The Huskies closed out the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate firing a final round one-under par, 287, after posting a 10-over par, 298, and a two-under par, 286, on day one. HCU added 14 birdies in the final round to finish the tournament with 36 total birdies over the three rounds.

The Huskies were led by Brooks Pawlak who claimed his best finish as a Husky in a tie for 16th place. The freshman followed up a three-under par finish on the 36-hole opening day with a two-under par, 70, in the final round. Pawlak added three birdies, 11 total for the tournament, on day two rolling in birdie putts at the par-5, 5th hole, the par-4, 9th hole, and the par-5, 13th hole, to finish the week at five-under par.

Mason Napier capped off the tournament with a one-under par, 71, in the final round after finishing day one at even-par. The sophomore added three birdies in round three including a birdie at the par-4, 2nd hole. Napier knocked in two birdies in a four-hole stretch from the 13th hole through the 16th hole to finish in a tie for 32nd place at one-under par.

Cooper New carded a final round one-over par, 73, after posting rounds of five-over par, 77, and one-under par, 71, on opening day. The senior bounced back after starting his final round at four-over par through eight holes knocking in a birdie at the par-5, 5th hole, and recorded back-to-back birdies at the 10th and 11th holes to finish in a tie for 59th place.

After a tough start to his first tournament of the season, Ben Caton bounced back nicely on day two after carding rounds of six-over par, 78, and three-over par, 75, on day one, posting a one-over par, 73, in the final round. The senior tallied back-to-back birdies at the par-4, 3rd hole, and the par-3, 4th hole. Caton finished in a tie for 72nd place at 10-over par.

Oliver Dickman rounded out the Husky lineup posting rounds of four-over par, 76, three-over par, 75, one opening day and a four-over par, 76, in the final round. The senior rolled in back-to-back birdies at the 5th and 6th holes before adding another birdie at the par-5, 10th hole, on day two to finish in 74th place.

Host, Arkansas State, captured the team title finishing at 47-under par. The Red Wolves claimed a 13-shot victory over Memphis at 34-under par. Jacksonville State fell to third place at 30-under par, 17-shots back. Jacksonville State's Erik Jansson went wire-to-wire to claim the individual title at 16-under par firing a bogey-free, 67, in the final round to win by one-shot over Memphis's Esteban Vazquez. Arkansas State's Thomas Schmidt finished third place at 14-under par, two-shots back.

The Huskies will close out the fall schedule at the La Tour Intercollegiate hosted by Nicholls on Monday, Oct. 23rd and Tuesday, Oct. 24th at LaTour Golf Club in Mathews, Louisiana.
