JONESBORO, Arkansas – The Huskies closed out the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate firing a final round one-under par, 287, after posting a 10-over par, 298, and a two-under par, 286, on day one. HCU added 14 birdies in the final round to finish the tournament with 36 total birdies over the three rounds.
The Huskies were led by
Brooks Pawlak who claimed his best finish as a Husky in a tie for 16
th place. The freshman followed up a three-under par finish on the 36-hole opening day with a two-under par, 70, in the final round. Pawlak added three birdies, 11 total for the tournament, on day two rolling in birdie putts at the par-5, 5
th hole, the par-4, 9
th hole, and the par-5, 13
th hole, to finish the week at five-under par.
Mason Napier capped off the tournament with a one-under par, 71, in the final round after finishing day one at even-par. The sophomore added three birdies in round three including a birdie at the par-4, 2
nd hole. Napier knocked in two birdies in a four-hole stretch from the 13
th hole through the 16
th hole to finish in a tie for 32
nd place at one-under par.
Cooper New carded a final round one-over par, 73, after posting rounds of five-over par, 77, and one-under par, 71, on opening day. The senior bounced back after starting his final round at four-over par through eight holes knocking in a birdie at the par-5, 5
th hole, and recorded back-to-back birdies at the 10
th and 11
th holes to finish in a tie for 59
th place.
After a tough start to his first tournament of the season,
Ben Caton bounced back nicely on day two after carding rounds of six-over par, 78, and three-over par, 75, on day one, posting a one-over par, 73, in the final round. The senior tallied back-to-back birdies at the par-4, 3
rd hole, and the par-3, 4
th hole. Caton finished in a tie for 72
nd place at 10-over par.
Oliver Dickman rounded out the Husky lineup posting rounds of four-over par, 76, three-over par, 75, one opening day and a four-over par, 76, in the final round. The senior rolled in back-to-back birdies at the 5
th and 6
th holes before adding another birdie at the par-5, 10
th hole, on day two to finish in 74
th place.
Host, Arkansas State, captured the team title finishing at 47-under par. The Red Wolves claimed a 13-shot victory over Memphis at 34-under par. Jacksonville State fell to third place at 30-under par, 17-shots back. Jacksonville State's Erik Jansson went wire-to-wire to claim the individual title at 16-under par firing a bogey-free, 67, in the final round to win by one-shot over Memphis's Esteban Vazquez. Arkansas State's Thomas Schmidt finished third place at 14-under par, two-shots back.
The Huskies will close out the fall schedule at the La Tour Intercollegiate hosted by Nicholls on Monday, Oct. 23
rd and Tuesday, Oct. 24
th at LaTour Golf Club in Mathews, Louisiana.
