Final Results
HOUSTON – The HCU men's and women's track & field team opened the 2023 indoor season on Friday at the Robert Platt Invitational hosted by the University of Houston at the Yeoman Fieldhouse.
Senior
Jessica Rabius, owner of three different indoor program records, bested her record in the 3,000 meters by nearly 14 seconds with a race-winning time of 9:30.24. Freshman
Destiny Quintanilla placed fourth in the race, finishing in 10:09.98.
Freshman
Reem Tammam had a solid debut, placing second in both the long jump and the triple jump. She posted a top mark of 5.85m/19-2.50 in the long jump and leapt 12.07m/39-7.25 in the triple jump. In the men's long jump, sophomore
Destiny Nkeonye set a new PR with a leap of 7.23m/23-8.75 and placed fifth. Freshman
Yassin Salem took second place in the men's triple jump, posting a top distance of 14.52m/47-7.75.
In the men's 60 meter hurdles, senior
Garrett Gibson ran an 8.14 in the prelims to advance before improving his time to 8.08 to place fifth in the finals.
Justice Artisst posted a second place finish in the men's 3,000 meters, crossing the finish line in 8:34.99.
Sophomore
Rebecca Pecora set a new PR in the women's high jump, clearing 1.70m/5-7.0 and placing second.
Eline Mast, a freshman, recorded a third place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:16.12.
HCU will have student-athletes competing in Lubbock, Texas at the Texas Tech Multis on Thursday and Friday, Jan. 26-27, as well as in town at the Houston Invitational on Friday, Jan. 27.
