CHICAGO – HBU freshman running back Ismail Mahdi was named the FedEx Ground National Freshman Player of the Week, presented by Stat Perfom Monday.
 
Mahdi, who earlier in the day was named Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week, rushed 24 times for 172 yards, the third-most in HBU history in a single game and the most by a running back, and had a 78-yard touchdown run. The Murphy, Texas, native also caught two passes for 83 yards, which included a 74-yard touchdown reception in the Huskies' 46-34 win over Northern Colorado on the road Saturday.
 
The Huskies host Lindenwood in the home opener Saturday at 6 p.m. at Husky Stadium.
