Ismail Mahdi was named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week and junior linebacker
Jalyx Hunt was named Defensive Player of the Week as voted on by the sports information directors and announced by the league office Monday.
Mahdi rushed 24 times for 172 yards, the third-most in HBU history in a single game and the most by a running back, and had a 78-yard touchdown run. The Murphy, Texas, native also caught two passes for 83 yards, which included a 74-yard touchdown reception in the Huskies' 46-34 win over Northern Colorado on the road Saturday.
Hunt recorded eight tackles, two for loss, a sack, a quarterback hurry, a pass breakup, forced a fumble and returned a fumble for a touchdown. The Debary, Fla., native sealed HBU's victory by scooping up a fumble after a
Jacoby Brass sack and returning it 52 yards for a touchdown with less than a minute remaining.
The Huskies host Lindenwood in the home opener Saturday at 6 p.m. at Husky Stadium.
