HOUSTON – HBU broke ground last week on its indoor baseball facility, beginning Phase One of a multi-phase upgrade project at Husky Field, HBU Athletics Director
Steve Moniaci and Head Coach
Lance Berkman announced Monday.
"I'm very excited about our new player development building," Berkman said. "This was at the very top of my facilities improvement wish list, because it allows us to work, even when the weather is not cooperating. This new building is one big step towards making HBU a nationally-relevant baseball program. In time, there will be more to come!"
The 7,200 square foot facility located down the right-field line will house a baseball-only weight room in partnership with Power Lift. It will also feature three full-size hitting cages with nearly 4,000 square feet of multi-purpose turf. Renderings of the inside of the facility can be seen below.
HBU is scheduled to open the 2023 season on the road against UT Rio Grande Valley Feb. 17-19 in Edinburg and will play its first game at Husky Field against Rice on March 11.
