Box Score 2 STEPHENVILLE, Texas – HBU pounded out 12 hits in a 9-7 victory in game one, then 15 in a 6-3 extra inning victory in game two to sweep a non-conference doubleheader over Tarleton to close out the regular season Saturday afternoon at Tarleton Softball Complex.
In the first game, freshman third baseman
Haylie Savage went 2-for-5 with a home run, a double, five RBI and scored one, while sophomore shortstop
Shelby Echols went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs. Freshman designated player
Justice Palmer was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, an RBI and scored twice for the Huskies (16-27).
Sophomore
Lyndie Swanson (8-7) picked up the win, allowing seven runs, six earned, on 11 hits with two strikeouts and four walks in six innings. Senior
Sarah Venker notched her second save of the year and also had a solo home run.
Katy Schaefer was 1-for-3 with a double and drove in three runs for the Texans (29-23) and Brady Rowland went 2-for-3 with a run.
Tristan Bridges (11-11) took the loss, allowing five runs, four earned, on seven hits with four strkeouts and three walks in 2.2 innings.
HBU led, 9-0, after a four-run fifth, but Tarleton answered with four runs of its own in the bottom of the fifth, then the Huskies had to hold the Texans off in the seventh as they scored three runs.
In the second game, Savage was 3-for-5 with two doubles and scored a run and Echols went 3-for-4 with a double. Senior first baseman
Caitlyn Brockway was 2-for-5 and drove in a run and redshirt freshman centerfielder
Avery Drake was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run for HBU.
Sophomore
Madison Cotton (4-9) went the distance, allowing three runs, two earned, on seven hits with two strikeouts and two walks in eight innings.
Miranda Pruitt was 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and scored a run, while Rowland was 1-for-4 with a double and scored a run.
Reagan Chism (7-5) took the loss, giving up six runs, two earned, on 15 hits in 7.1 innings.
HBU led, 3-2, in the bottom of the seventh, but Pruitt's solo home run sent the game into an extra frame.
The Huskies scored three runs in the eighth, first on the go-ahead RBI single by Brockway, then two more on a Tarleton error.
HBU will be the six seed and will face the three seed, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, in the opening round of the Southland Conference Tournament Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in Hammond, Louisiana.
