HOUSTON – Houston used a two-run fourth and a two-run eighth to come away with a 4-2 victory over HBU in non-conference baseball Tuesday night at Schroeder Park.
Senior second baseman
Jake Miller went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, while junior first baseman
Brennen Bales went 1-for-4 with an RBI for the Huskies (13-24).
Junior righthander
Thomas King (0-4) took the loss, allowing two runs on five hits with four walks in 3.1 innings. Junior righthander
Jordan Powell struck out three in 1.2 innings of relief.
Tab Tracy was 4-for-4 and scored a run, while Alex Lopez went 2-for-4 with a double and scored a run for UH (24-13). Ian McMillian was 1-for-2, walked twice, drove in a run and scored.
Maddux Miller (2-0) picked up the win, pitching a perfect fourth and striking out two. Jackson Dannelley earned his first save, allowing one run on one hit and striking out two over the final three innings.
Lopez led off the fourth with a double, then Anthony Tulimero followed with a walk and the Cougars took advantage of a passed ball and a throwing error to score the game's first run. Tulimero came home on McMillan's RBI single.
Sophomore third baseman
Sebastian Trinidad led off the sixth with a walk, then stole second. Bales came through with a two-out RBI single as the Huskies cut the Cougars' lead to 2-1.
Brandon Burckel had an RBI double and Santiago Garcia's sacrifice fly scored Tracy to put UH ahead, 4-1.
Miller homered with two outs in the ninth, but Dannelley got a groundout to end the game.
The Huskies will face Lamar Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Beaumont, before returning to Southland Conference play with a three-game series against Northwestern State Friday through Sunday in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
