Diego Davila came though with RBI singles in the eighth, as the Huskies leveled the Southland Conference baseball series at a game apiece with a 5-3 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Friday night at Chapman Field.
Junior first baseman
Brennen Bales went 2-for-4 and scored twice, while junior catcher
Kevin Ortiz went 2-for-5 and scored a run for the Huskies (12-23, 6-5 SLC). Junior rightfielder
Logan Letney tripled, drove in a pair and scored a run.
Junior righthander
Tyler Zarella (1-0) earned the win, holding TAMU-CC scoreless on two hits with three strikeouts in 1.2 innings. Senior righthander
Andrew Reitmeyer notched his seventh save, tied for the third-most in a single season in HBU history, and gives him 13 for his career, taking over sole possession of fourth all-time. Junior starter
Jared Burch allowed three runs on three hits with four strikeouts and three walks in six innings.
Tre Jones went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, an RBI and scored and Steven Rivera-Chijin went 2-for-5 with a double and scored for the Islanders (17-19, 4-7).
Tyler Miller (1-1) took the loss for TAMU-CC, allowing two runs on four hits with two strikeouts in two innings. Starter Hayden Thomas allowed three runs, one earned, on four hits with four strikeouts and three walks in 5.1 innings.
HBU jumped out to the lead with a pair of unearned runs in the top of the first, with Bales and Ortiz scoring on an error. TAMU-CC answered with a pair in the bottom half on Jones' RBI triple and an RBI groundout by Leo Markotic.
The Islanders took the lead in the fourth when Max Puls doubled, then later scored on a wild pitch. The Huskies loaded the bases in the sixth and tied the game on senior second baseman

Letney led off the eighth with a triple, then Chumley followed with an RBI infield single. Chumley scored on Davila's base hit to center to put the Huskies ahead, 5-3.
Reitmeyer walked the first two batters in the ninth and they moved up on a sacrifice bunt, but he struck out Chijin and Tucker McEnroe to shut the door.
The rubber match of the series begins at 1 p.m. Sunday.
